Playa del Carmen
The growing……
Playa del Carmen (or,
just "Playa" to the
locals) is a city on the
move.
Until recently,
Playa was a little
fishing village, prized
for its turquoise blue
waters and environmental
treasures by adventurous
Mexicans and savvy,
in-the-know travellers.
But with an enviable
location across the
water from Cozumel
and a
mere 45 minutes south of
Cancun International
Airport, this secret was
too good to keep. Today,
Playa is one of the
fastest growing coastal
towns in the world.
The beach……
Playa del Carmen (or,
just "Playa" to the
locals) is located in
the Mexican Caribbean
coast, in the heart of
the Riviera Maya, just
40 miles (60 kms.) south
of the Cancun
International Airport.
The city of Playa del
Carmen hugs the coast
along blue Caribbean
water and fine
white
sand, it is a picture
perfect, tropical
setting, enriched with
the flavor and tradition
of Mexico, in Playa the
air is fresh, the
sun
warm, and the beaches
are magnificent. Adults,
children and families
alike frolic in the warm
Caribbean Sea.
Coconut
palms line the
beachfront, swaying
gently in the breeze.
About midway along all
the beaches in Playa are
open to the public.
Playa's beaches are
nice. Along 5th, in the
tourist zone the beaches
are all clean white
sand. The seaweed and
other garbage are
cleaned up every day.
Within a short walk to
almost any point on the
Playa main beach is a
bar/restaurant.
There
are also a number of
snorkeling, dive and
fishing boats ready to
take you out The beach
is absolutely gorgeous.
You only need to visit
once and you will find
that there is no way to
describe the feeling
this area gives to you.
La quinta avenida…..
La Quinta Avenida,
"Fifth Avenue", is a
pedestrian only street
running parallel to the
beach north from the
central plaza.
Fifth
Avenue is the heart of
Playa del Carmen's
cultural life, and is
lined with restaurants,
shops and hotels.
Although Fifth Avenue is
the main street, all the
streets and avenues in
the city are alive with
fun-seekers and sun worshippers.
The northern
end of Fifth Avenue
is
called the "New Fifth".
This is an upscale area
with new construction,
brick lined streets and
a more European flavor.
Along 5th Avenue you
will find numerous
stores selling
interesting items as
well as restaurants and
hotels. There are
clothing stores selling
the latest trends from
Europe as well as
Cuban
Cigar and Rum stores. It
is a vibrant atmosphere
reminiscent of a
carnival.
We have seen
live lions, fire
breathers, giant boa
constrictors and a
cavalcade of characters
parading down 5th. There
are also lots of bars
along 5th making it a
good place to party.
At
night 5th Avenue comes
alive; the clubs are
located on the beach or
away from the majority
of hotels and
resorts
because of the noise
level. Couples and
families, all dressed
up, head out for dinner.
The fashion young girls
look very nice in their
new acquisitions……
Playa
del Carmen is “the
place”….
The hotels……
Playa del Carmen Hotels
brings you the best of
summer destinations with
memorable experiences.
Hotels in Playa del
Carmen offer guests an
extraordinary place that
is created by combining
unique architecture and
structure, expressive
decor and artistry, and
magnificent features all
in one great location.
Add great service to
this and the result is
an extraordinary
experience that would
make your memory of
Playa del Carmen a long
and lasting one.
Attractions to know…..
Most tourist buses pull
into Playa turning off
the highway at Benito
Juarez Avenue and drive
to the downtown Bus
Station which is located
right on 5th Avenue.
The famous Ferry docks
to Cozumel
are located
close to the bus station
as well, this is the
busiest spot in all of
Playa del Carmen.
Paseo del Carmen
shopping mall is located
at the heart of Playa
del Carmen, and has
became a reference
reunion point for all
tourists and locals.
Located just where
Fifth
Avenue starts, between
the Ferry Dock and
Playacar, this mall has
exclusive stores, a
spectacular environment
perfect for spending the
day shopping or
enjoying.
El Faro's lighthouse is
a popular landmark. At
night, it is a beacon to
sea-going vessels, and
several days a week
passengers depart from
visiting cruise ships to
spend the day shopping
or sun-bathing. Playa
del Carmen is also an
ideal spot for visiting
one of the most
beautiful parks in
Mexico: Xcaret, which is
also the place where
ferries set off to the
Island of Cozumel. It is
also near the natural
well area of Puerto Aventuras while the
largest natural aquarium
in the world, Xel-Ha, is
